• Strengths:
Observant: Perhaps one of Sofia's most defining traits is her observing nature. Her classmates, teachers, principal all know this about her and often tell her that she notices everything which is relatively true. There is little that ever surprises Sofia even when it appears to shock everyone else. She passively uses this to entertain herself by watching her classmates but it is also a trait she uses for good.
On more than one occasion, she can be noticed defending people by using her observation skills to find ways to insult or otherwise embarrass potential bullies who seem intent on picking on someone weaker than them. However, she's anything but a hero and there is usually some personal reason that she speaks up for someone (like them being in her way). Her talent for observation is also what ultimately helps her catch the school's hacker, although she can't stop him from releasing all the school's secrets at the school party.
Strong-Willed: Sofia is still in high school but is very independent and strong-willed. The adults in her life can't control her and she tends to often be more mature than them in her actions. She gets put in the middle of her mother's relationship drama with her principal and then is blamed when her mom turns down the proposal from him. While she still lives at home and goes to school, Sofia tends to fend for herself. She comes and goes as she pleases and her mother tends to have very little control over her.
When Sofia latches onto something she refuses to let go. As the hacker mystery unfolds and she's brought into it by Raul she is like a dog with a bone. Nothing, not even threats over her own secrets can get her to let go of it and she remains determined to find the source of the hack.
Compassionate: Despite the claims from Sofia that she doesn't protect or defend people on purpose -- and she does not go out of her way to do so. It's very easy to see that she cares for people around her and their well-being. Even though she doesn't want her mother with her principal she also can't stand to see her mother hurting and lonely after turning his proposal down and tries to urge her to reconcile. She isn't particularly close with her classmates but tends to make sure they're okay in her own way if she sees they're in distress.
She provides understanding and no judgement as a way of compassion rather than the more obvious tool of comfort.
• Weaknesses:
Out-spoken: In some ways, being outspoken can be good. However, Sofia never knows when she should stop, usually -- or she does but doesn't care and pushes the boundary anyway. A lot of the dangerous situations that Sofia finds herself in are due to her pressing issues that she's been warned to let go. She will keep poking at the sensitive spots on bullies until they turn their full attention on her, promising that one day she's going to regret her interferences. She always returns with the fact that she's already doing better than them and she's not worried.
Careless: In the same vein, Sofia has a kind of careless disregard for her own well-being. She has a history of mental issues and self-harm. She doesn't have a great sense of preservation which is connected to her inability to know when to stop. She puts herself in danger for the sole purpose of finding the hacker even if it means following the trail of a night that she was drugged and kidnapped and then dumped in front of her house afterwards. She does her best to keep other people from getting hurt but there is only so much she is in control of in that regard.
As she pushes forward on careless pursuits, spying, breaking and entering and the like she often attempts to dissuade people from following in her footsteps -- however, she is unconcerned enough to try and argue with them usually allowing people to make their own decisions.
Passive: In a way, this is maybe Sofia's worst trait. While, she's very active and proactive about the hacker situation in her school there's a lot of more everyday things that she lets go. She doesn't push to help Luis when he's constantly bullied by Gerry and only steps in when it's inconveniencing her (ex: in front of her locker). She knows everyone's secrets, that a student is dating a teacher... a guy from the school glamor couple is sleeping with one of the girl's friends. She never puts her nose in people's business although doing so would likely save many people a lot of trouble and pain.
Her talent for observation is something that she uses mostly for herself and her own entertainment and ends and helping people is secondary to her selfish motives.
